Frequently Asked Questions

Is TabScribe really free?

Yes. TabScribe is completely free with no premium tier, no ads, and no paywall. We built it to solve our own pain point and want to share it with everyone. All features — all 4 formats, tab group saving, file export, keyboard shortcut — are available to everyone, forever.

What data does TabScribe collect?

Nothing. Zero. TabScribe operates entirely locally — your tab titles and URLs never leave your browser. We don't use analytics, tracking pixels, or external servers. All settings are stored in Chrome's local storage. There are no network requests at all (beyond Chrome's built-in extension update mechanism).

Why does TabScribe need these permissions?

Every permission serves a specific, minimal purpose:

  • tabs — To read your open tab titles and URLs (the entire point of the extension)
  • clipboardWrite — To copy formatted text to your clipboard
  • storage — To save your formatting preferences and tab groups locally on your device
  • commands — To register the Alt+Shift+C keyboard shortcut
  • downloads — To save exported tab files (.md, .txt, .json, .html) to your disk
  • offscreen — A technical requirement for clipboard access inside Manifest V3 Service Workers
How is this different from OneTab or Copy All URLs?

OneTab is a full tab manager — it closes your tabs and stores them in a list. TabScribe is lighter and more focused: we don't manage your tabs, we just let you copy them in any format you need, without closing anything.

Copy All URLs only outputs plain text URL lists. TabScribe supports Markdown, JSON, and HTML formatting, plus tab group saving, file export, and a keyboard shortcut. We're designed for users who work with structured note-taking and development tools.

Does it work with Obsidian? Notion? VS Code?

Absolutely. The Markdown output format [title](url) is compatible with every Markdown editor and note-taking app — Obsidian, Notion, VS Code, Logseq, Roam Research, Bear, Ulysses, Joplin, Typora, and many more. Just paste and you have a clean, clickable link list.

What languages are supported?

TabScribe's interface is available in 12 languages: English, 简体中文, 繁體中文, 日本語, 한국어, Deutsch, Français, Español, Português (Brasil), Русский, Bahasa Indonesia, and more. We automatically match your browser's language setting — no configuration needed.
